After Solomon had given God an offering that could be termed as heavy in 2 Chronicles 7:5 , the Lord visited him and that was the genesis of 2 Chronicles 7:14 . I do not what know the best adjective to qualify a sacrifice of twenty-two thousand bulls and one hundred and twenty thousand sheep so I used the word heavy. What does 2 Chronicles 7:14 say:
“if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
This verse is embedded with a lot of messages relevant to us and we seek to elaborate on them.
The Lord started with the word ‘if’, although I am not an English expert, I know from our elementary school that the word ‘if ‘ precedes a condition. To get certain things, one is required to pay certain price. One thing about the Most High God is He is not a tyrant or a bully. He does not force people. Breakthroughs, Open heavens, Open doors from God come with a condition. Revelation 3:20 says behold I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hears my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me. The condition to dine with Jesus is to open one’s heart to Him. Exodus 19:5 says if you obey Me fully and keep My covenant, then out of all nations you will be My treasured possession. That is another condition that needs to be satisfied to be God’s treasured possession. Every major breakthrough comes with a condition or price. Success comes at a price. There are certain conditions that need to be met at the local grocery store or else we will enter empty handed and leave empty handed. There are certain condition that needs to be met to experience God. One of them is doing daily devotion. Isaiah 26:9 says with my soul I have desired You in the night, Yes, by my spirit within me I will seek you early. Sir/Ma, prayers do not kill devourers it is payment of tithes that kills it and that’s a condition according to Malachi 3:10
After the word ‘if’ we see a phrase ‘My people’. As hard as it is to put, not everyone is God’s. Proverbs 8:17 says I love those who love Me, and those who seek Me diligently will find Me. We want the Lord to love us, we must first love Him. God refers to those that love Him as ‘My People’. These are people He has set aside for Himself. Psalms 4:3 says know that the Lord has set apart him that is godly for Himself. Psalms 35:27b says yea, let them say continually, let the Lord be magnified who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant. Who are His people? Those who have given their lives to Jesus. John 1:12 says but as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name. Some are for God and some are not, I know it is sad but the good thing is there is an opportunity today to move into the camp of His people today.
The next word is ‘who are called by My name’. This is a bit deeper. Not all of God’s people are called by God’s name. When talk of people called by God’s name we are talking of real Christians i.e. that is Christ-like not those that say they are Christians and still fornicate or got to clubs and consume alcohol or those that are unruly or those that are disobedient to parents .We are talking of people who Jesus is visible in their appearance and their speech. Ephesians 5:23 says Christ is the head of the church; and we are the church. The elders have a saying, they will say when you see a man or a woman the first thing you will notice is his or her head. As a Christian when people see us, the first thing they must see is Jesus not a pop star or a celebrity that does not know God. In our dressing and the way we carry ourself, Jesus must be visible. We should dress in modest manner, dress in ways that befits a princes and princess of the Most High God .1 Timothy 2:9-10 says in like many, also that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good work. This applies to men too. There are certain hair cuts you will not see on a prince .Not only in our appearances do people need to see Christ but in our conducts and speeches too.Our words and the meditations of our hearts should be acceptable unto God like the prayer of the Psalmist.
Next is ‘will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways ’. God takes the issue of humility very serious. God is very humble. Psalms 113:6 says He humbles Himself to behold the things that are in the heavens and in the earth. If God who is the creator of the heavens and the earth humbles Himself to deal with us, who are we to act proudly to others? Proverbs 15:33 says before honor is humility. One of the reasons why God loved Moses was because of his humility and meekness. Number 12:3 says Moses was more humble than all men who were on the face of the earth. One factor that will decide how far God will take us in life is humility. We need to be humble ourselves to be corrected by God or our managers at work, our parents or people older than us. Anyone who struggles with relating to people underneath him will never be in God’s good book because James 4:6 says God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Do you know as children of God and people called by His name, it is pride to do things without first consulting Him? When we do things without consulting Him, what we are telling Him is His opinions do not count. Before we eat that food, let’s thank Him because there are many hard working people who cannot afford food. Praying, seeking the face of God and repentance are acts of humility. It is humility that leads to repentance.
The Last is ‘then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land’. Before God will hear from heaven, there must be a call from earth. A call always precedes an answer. Psalms 91:15 says He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. Brethren, if we do not call, we will not get answer. Also a very close look at this verse will reveal to us that forgiveness of sins comes before healing of lands .When we talk of healings, we are not referring to curing diseases in the body alone. A land that is barren or not fruitful is sick and it needs healing. So also a business ventures running at loss is sick and needs healing. So also are situations or circumstances going in the negative direction. Before the Lord heals, there needs to be forgiveness. Before forgiveness there needs to be confession of sin.1 John 1:9 says if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all un-righteousness.
If there is anyone reading this newsletter and is yet to give his or her life to Jesus or was once born again but backslidded, Please come back to Christ today. He is faithful and just to forgive. Ezekiel 18:32 says “For I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies,” says the Lord God “therefore repent and live!”
The bible said in Romans 3 v 23 that for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 6 s 23 says for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. The gift was explained in John 3 v 16 , For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. What shall we do to be saved? The bible says in Romans 10vs 9 that if you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10 v 10 – For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with our mouth we confess and are saved. Prayer this prayer from your heart today!
Dear Jesus, I believe that You died for me and rose again on the third day. I confess I am a sinner. I need your love and forgiveness. Come into my heart. Forgive my sins. I receive Your eternal life. Confirm You love by giving me peace, joy and supernatural love for others, Amen.
