MEMORY VERSE: let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father which is in heaven, Matthew 5:16
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Sam 5-6, Rom 5, Jer 43, Luke 12
We live in a very dark world. Iniquity is growing by the day. It is getting increasingly difficult to differentiate between a Christian and a non Christian. Non Christians draw tattoos, Christians too draw tattoos. Non Christians drink alcohol, Christians too take a glass or two – just enough to get them tipsy not drunk. Non Christians see nothing wrong in divorce, Christians too don’t mind divorce. Non Christians prefer to sleep with the lady before they propose, Christians too practice that. Non – Christians cook up stories to get extra pocket money from Dad and Mum when going back to University or college, a lot of Christian youths do that. Non – Christians use fake credit cards to buy items on line. some un-serious Christians do that too. Non – Christians buy an item for a unit and submit an invoice of ten units to their managers at work, Christians too do that. Non Christians don’t mind calling blue black, Christians tell little white lies. Non Christians keep pornographic videos or pictures on their phones, Christians watch it. There are no vices in the world you don’t find Christians practicing, is it gambling, lottery playing e.t.c.
Brothers and Sisters in Christ, this should not be so.1 Thessalonians 4:7 say for God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. God saved our soul to be different. The essence of our salvation is so that we can stand out in our colleges, streets, universities, place of work, communities’ e.t.c.
Matthew 5:16 says let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father which is in heaven. You and I were saved so that we can shine in this dark world. In what ways are we to shine? Is it in showing off our new gadgets – phones, ipads, blackberry, putting on expensive jewelry, driving the latest cars or buying the latest designer jeans, shoes, bags? No Brethren, Jesus wants us to shine in humility. He wants us to shine in the area of producing the fruit of the spirit – love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self- control. He wants us to shine in helping the poor and needy. A man of God was traveling in a plane to another country. When he got to his seat, he saw an elderly lady trying to get her bag in the bag compartment so he helped her. When it was time for the plane to take off, the elderly lady began to struggle with her seat belt so the man helped her again. At this point it was obvious that it was her first time of traveling. This man kept on helping this woman and after helping her he would smile without saying a word. After the plane landed the woman asked if he was a pastor. Despite the fact that this pastor did not say a word, his light shone. There are many of us who don’t take nonsense. Friend you want your light to shine? At times you will be required to take nonsense. Paul said I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some, 1 Corinthians 9:19-23. So that his light may shine, he became a servant to those who were under him. At times he accepted insults all because he wanted his light to shine. Many a times we will be required to inconvenience ourselves so that people may see our good works and glorify God.
QUESTION: Can an non- Christian testify that you resemble Christ in all your conducts?
